    • 1). Find a suitable location for your dealership. Applicants for an Arkansas auto dealer license must have a place of business. Make sure the property is zoned correctly for tax purposes.

    • 2). Contact your telephone service provider to establish a telephone number in the business name. The service cannot be for a mobile phone; it must be a landline to the property.

    • 3). Purchase at least one filing cabinet to store vital records in. The cabinet must be secured by a combination or lock.

    • 4). Construct or purchase a sign for your business. The sign must clearly state your business name and telephone number. It also must clearly identify your location as a car dealership.

    • 5). Hire at least one licensed salesperson or apply for a salesperson license yourself. Obtain the application at your department of motor vehicles.

    • 6). Apply for a corporate surety bond of $25,000. This is required to obtain a dealer's license. You also need a dealer's commercial insurance policy.

    • 7). Obtain the application for a dealer's license. Fill the application packet out and mail it to the listed address. The license fee is $250 as of September 2009. See the resources to download the form.

    • 8). Wait for the state to process your application. A state representative will contact you to examine your property location. The representative will verify you have completed the required steps.
