Do you like to stand in line?At the local coffee shop or at the bank? You could handle a short wait to get a latte or make a deposit into your bank account-- or can you?Next time you are in the local café or bank just look around.
How many people get frustrated waiting in a simple line for a coffee and then leave and never get that cup of coffee? Many small business owners do the exactly same thing in their career.
Perhaps they commit to a certain goal in their business or to become a leader in their community.
Just like the coffee shop or bank, many business owners get frustrated when they do not get instant gratification in their business and get out of line.
Another great example of getting out of line is your New Year's resolution.
Imagine you commit to quit smoking on New Year's Eve.
On the stroke of the New Year you state that you have official kicked the habit.
You are at the back of the line in the line up to successfully quitting smoking.
However, what usually happens? The average person normally steps out of line, sneak a cigarette and then attempt to get back into line where they were.
Well, this is not going to happen.
You need to go to the back of line because there is no jumping back into this line.
Many business owners make a habit of getting back in at the end of the line and leaving the line, this occurs over and over, and it becomes a habit and one day they stop and wonder why they have not moved anywhere in their career.
The same can be said about your business or career.
What normally happens with small business owners is that they get frustrated that results are not occurring fast enough for them so they lose focus and leave the line up they are in.
You just need to look at many business leaders in today's world.
Many CEO's and President's didn't start at this position.
They started in other positions in a company or in their career.
This is no magic wand that is waived and you instantly become a CEO, President or a leader in the community.
These people all started at the back of the line and eventually moved to the front of the line after many years of working hard creating value for their business, after many personal development strategies and countless hours of hard work.
So what do these successful people do while they are in line to remain focused on eventually reaching the front of line?Successful business people are constantly sharpening the saw.
They are always improving their skills by reading books, attending business seminars, consulting with peers plus many more self and business improvement strategies.
Successful small business entrepreneurs are constantly in a state of learning, self improvement and, most importantly, they never get out of line.
So why would you as a business owner ever think about getting out of line?Your personal development and business development are the most important parts of your career as a small business owner or any other level in a small business.
But so many small business owners concentrate only on working in their business and forget to invest in developing personally and professionally.
This lack of investment is short-sighted and toxic to your business.
Business owners also need to ensure that they work with their teams to encourage personal development at every level and then giving their team the room to develop in your organization.
Get in line and stay in line!Do you ever reach the front of the line?Smart business owners never reach the front of the line.
Do you think a professional hockey player or golfer says "OK, I am at the top of my game, time to relax?"Of course not, they are always continuing to improve and stay at the top of their game.
You need to do this in your business as well-- constantly improving and sharpening your saw.
