New Freelance Writer - 3 Steps to Creating a Highly Productive Writing Schedule
It will literally mean the difference between buying groceries next week or eating peanut butter and jelly.
An interesting note here is that for all the training that most independents get, how to be productive isn't a major learning module.
So what does it take to develop the trait to being successfully productive in your writing? It takes creating a routine that's repeatable and that produces the absolute best results that you can give.
Well first, that usually requires finding out what time of the day that we are at our best.
Some love the morning, they rise early turn on some energizing music, get some coffee and proceed to write until noon where they tend to get antsy and need to get moving.
So they set their meetings and calls to be made in the afternoon when they aren't as focused, therefore there less productive at this time.
Now once you have decided which time of day is your unique time, than you should focus nest on just how much work can you get done during this time.
Can you type 40 words a minute or do you type even slower? You should give yourself a typing speed test to find this out if you don't know.
Now once you have this info you can move on to the next and final step of this equation.
Finally, how much do you need to get done? Lets say your your ghost writing a book, lets say its a 200 pager.
Well than if you typed 45 words a minute and you needed a 90,000 word manuscript in a month than your going to need to write for about 33 hours, best case.
If your going to type for that amount of time, you should figure in rest stops, such as for coffee and restroom breaks etc.
And the fact that the afternoons aren't very productive times for you than that leaves approximately 6 hours (6am to 12pm) to produce the best in the least amount of time.
That means you can create this book in 5 - 6 days, in the best case scenario, using this process.
The most important element to this process is the need to start and follow a routine.
Without this you will find yourself slipping and not producing therefore not eating at red lobster next week.
