How to Find Jobs While Traveling the U.S.
- 1). Time your travel so you end up in agricultural areas in time for the harvest. While not glamorous, fruit and crop picking provide a way of earning some cash while on the road. Good places for fruit season includes Florida during the citrus harvest (November through May), California (March through September) and Washington State (August through October.) Go to these locations and talk with the field bosses or crews about picking up day work helping with the harvest. Wages are typically determined by the bushel, barrel or pound picked.
- 2). Check websites that specialize in seasonal work throughout the nation. Websites such as Cool Works have comprehensive listings for work in state and national parks. Some jobs are adventure jobs such as river rafting guides, trail guides and naturalists, allowing you to enrich your travels by earning money in the parks.
- 3). Use online classified sites to locate temporary jobs. Use sections that are listed under "Temporary Gigs" or "Temp Jobs". In addition, if you know the dates you are available in a certain location, make a posting saying who you are, when you will be there and what you are willing to do for work.
- 4). Go to local Feed and Tack supply stores in farm and agricultural communities. Many stores of this nature have bulletin boards with posted ads looking for farm hands and seasonal help.
