For most of us there has been at least one time when we've wanted or needed to lose weight fast.
Whether it's for a wedding, a winter trip to the Bahamas, a high school reunion or any number of reasons, there comes a time to drop some quick weight.
The problem is that many people think all they have to do is to stop eating.
Yes, you will lose weight fast if you stop eating.
Water weight.
Because of the salt we consume, which is in 99% of prepared food, we retain water.
I won't get into the science of it here, but it's true.
If you suddenly stop eating, the salt that's in your system will flush away along with extra water, often a gallon or more.
A gallon of water weighs approximately eight pounds, so there goes one dress size.
Unfortunately, lots of chaos begins in your body.
When you starve yourself, or fast, once your body recognizes that no more food is coming in, it will go into emergency mode to conserve as much fuel as possible.
Simply put, your metabolism slows to burn fewer calories, or less fat.
That's not exactly a great diet plan, is it? You will also start to burn muscle.
It's not true that you won't burn muscle until all the fat is gone.
Your body requires quite a bit of protein on a regular basis, so if you're not feeding it protein, it will burn the most logical source: muscle.
Another bad thing that happens is that your sugar levels go way out of whack and you will not feel very well.
You may get jittery, irritable, lethargic...
even depressed.
Your body also won't get any of the vitamins and minerals it requires.
Before you embark on any weight-reduction program, do some research.
That's what I do and am much better off because of it.
The safest way to lose weight fast is by following a program that shows you the best foods to eat to "jumpstart" your metabolism and actually make it burn fat faster.
There are a few good ones out there if you do a little searching.
I like ones that combine eating the right "good-tasting" foods with a simple exercise program.
Most of us are pressed for time, but it's still important to exercise as a complement to your diet.
When you lose weight fast the proper way, you'll feel more energy, your skin will be clearer, your mind will be sharper and you will look amazing! The important thing is to treat your body with care, especially if you're over thirty five.
While we may recover quickly from those "crash diets" when we were in our teens and twenties, they can really play havoc on our more mature bodies.
And with a good diet program which uses foods that you actually enjoy, you'll be more apt to stay on it after that special event and keep the weight off forever!
