How to Make Tube Socks Into Children's Book Characters

    Olivia the Pig

    • 1). Place the pink tube sock onto your hand. Put your thumb into the heel area to form the mouth for the Olivia puppet.

    • 2). Draw and cut out two identical oval shapes for ears, approximately 3 inches long, with pink felt or fabric with a pencil and scissors. Hot-glue these ears at the top of the head on the sock puppet. Squeeze glue to the bottom point on the oval, and stick it to either side of the top of the head.

    • 3). Draw a rounded triangle about 2 inches wide for Olivia's snout. Cut the snout out. Using brown marker, draw two nose holes that look like vertical slits. Glue the nose in the center of the face just above the mouth.

    • 4). Draw two thick slits about 1 inch long for Olivia's eyes with the brown marker. Cut a piece of the red fabric that is 2-by-8 inches for a scarf because Olivia's favorite color is red. Tie it around the neck area of the puppet, and squeeze hot glue under the knot. Press it into place.

Ratty from "Wind and the Willows"

    • 1). Place the brown tube sock onto your hand. Put your thumb into the heel area to form the mouth for the Ratty puppet.

    • 2). Draw a circle on the brown felt or fabric that is roughly 2 inches wide. Cut it out, and then cut it in half to form Ratty's ears. Hot-glue them to the top of the sock puppet's head on either side. Glue the flat area onto the puppet, so the ears look like half circles.

    • 3). Draw two circular eyes with black marker just below the ears. Add a nose just above the mouth area.

    • 4). Cut the brown yarn into six pieces that are 2 inches long for whiskers. Glue three whiskers to either side of the nose.
