Have you tried losing weight but just can't seem to win. Do you come off a diet and then put all the weight plus some more and think 'I just can't lose weight, it must just be my genetics'. Well I am here to tell you that you have been lied to.
The reason you can't lose weight is not your fault. It's due to all the outside influences of your life, telling you to be thin, your not accepted unless your thin. If your fat or over weight your not happy. Plus all the things that tell you try this diet I lost 10kgs in a week and all this other crap you see day in and day out.
I am here to tell you that if you tried dieting or any of these scams you will surely lose weight but your weight loss will not last. If you want to lose weight and keep it off you need a these 7 things in your life.
1. A reason to do it. (Your main reason why is your driving force and your goal) Now I don't mean just because you want to be thin, I mean a real reason. What will it give you? What will it mean to you? How will being your ideal weight and looking good make you feel? What else that you haven't thought of before will it give you? Is there any other reasons you want to lose weight and keep it off? It could be your family, your job, so you have more energy for life, because you want to be healthier, you want to live longer. What ever your weight loss goal is you need to make it real, about you and strong enough that you will not give up.
2. A change in your thinking, attitude, thoughts and life. By this I mean you need to not only have goals (as above) but you also need to think differently about food choices, your life, your attitude towards your eating and also change your life. This is a challenge for most people and that is why they give up on losing weight or want that magic pill or quick fix that just doesn't work. If you don't change your insides first you can never change your outsides. The biggest challenge in this is EMOTIONAL EATING: Eating to change how you feel will not make you thin or really do anything but harm to your life. You need to find new ways to change how you feel and STOP emotional eating today.
3. Plan your life. I mean if this is really your goal and you want to lose weight, keep it off and look great naked or down the beach (This is what most people want), you need to start planning it into your life each day, each week, each month and for the rest of your life. Being healthy and looking and feeling great is not about doing something for only 12 weeks or 6 months or the next year, it's about creating a new you and a new life. I don't mean you need to be spending hours each week or day doing and planning. It's really as simple as every Sunday night plan your week and say ok on Monday I am going to walk for 20 minutes and on Tuesday I will ride for 25 minutes etc. You get the picture. Also about spending time doing up a meal plan or menu for the week so when you go shopping you will just get what you need and also know what your eating each and everyday. Planning is the key to success in all areas of your life not just in losing weight.
4. Having a day off each week: this is a very important part of your new eating and exercising program, this is about allowing you to eat the things you used to eat and remembering the things your used to do. Having a day off from exercise also allows your muscles to rest and repair. You can make this any day you like but when you plan it in each week you can look forward to your 'cheat day' or 'free day' each week. Lets say you decide that Sunday will be your free day but then one week you have a friends party to attend and you know you will not be sticking to your new eating plan you can make that day your 'cheat day' or 'free day' it's up to you what you do but PLAN it so you do it.
5. Moving forward no matter what: this is about if you make a mistake or stuff up or trip up to not give up, don't just say 'I tried it and it didn't work' get back up and keep going. Just imagine if when you were a child and learning to walk you tried it once and then gave up so you never learnt to walk and so now you still crawl around. Did that happen? Or did you get back up and try again. What about learning to ride a bike did you give up when you fell off or did you get back on and try again? And I bet that if you did get back up and try again today you are walking and you could get on a bike and ride it. See we all have at times fallen off but it's how we get back up that makes the difference to our lives. Get back on and keep trying. I am telling you everyone has made a mistake or stuffed up and did something they shouldn't or didn't want to really do. So what are you going to do when the time comes? Just remember I told you this would happen and keep going.
6. Eating right is about learning to eat right: if you don't know about healthy eating then learn. Get a book, download a free eBook, download a podcast or audio that will teach you. Do some research on foods. If your eating right your body will tell you with increased energy and a vitality towards life, people around you will notice and ask you what you're doing, it really is amazing to watch how easy it is to eat right when you know how and about the right foods.
7. Move more: this isn't about spending hours in the gym or getting up at 4am to go for a run each morning. Find something you enjoy doing and do that. Go for a walk with your family just before dinner, it only needs to be 15-20 minutes at a brisk pace to get your heart pumping to start with. Once you get into the habit of moving more do and look for other things you can do. I get regular magazines each month that have little tips and trick for 10-15 minute workouts you can do each morning, when your ready. The goal is to just find ways to move a little bit extra each day. Like taking the stairs, parking further away and walking that extra bit. Going for a walk at the park or beach at sunset to watch the beautiful colours of the sky. Just do something little and extra each day till your ready to do a little bit more and then move on to other things you want to do to keep you healthy and fit.

Start off just with baby steps and then when you can walk then move on and build up to more and more until you are ready to run (So to speak). Remember a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.
