I will go over the basics for you, and once you get the general techniques down as to how to install kitchen cabinets, you will feel more confident when it comes to tackling the more complex aspects of your kitchen remodel.
The best way to get started is to get familiar with your new kitchen design, one which you hopefully had designed by a professional kitchen designer.
Draw the layout of the cabinets on the walls, and try to visualize how the kitchen is going to look.
This will definitely help you to understand how to install upper kitchen cabinets as well as the base cabinets.
Again, your kitchen designer should have a two or three dimensional drawing for you so that you will have a better understanding as to what your new kitchen will look like once you have it installed.
Take a close look at the layout that you just drew on the walls.
You want to make sure that the cabinets that have been ordered for your kitchen fit where they are supposed to.
Check to see that there are not any electrical outlets or switches that might have to be moved in your new design, and make sure that the wiring for all of the appliances are positioned in their proper locations.
In some cases, these wires will have to be relocated as well.
Your qualified electrician will be able to move any wiring for you without much trouble.
Just be sure that everything is where it is supposed to be before you start installing the cabinets.
The next order of business before you learn how to install kitchen wall cabinets is to find the high point of your floor.
And by the way, before we go any further, it is always best whenever possible to have the new flooring installed before you start with the installation.
Having this done beforehand just makes the entire process much easier.
Just be sure to protect the floor during the installation process.
However, there are two types of flooring that you will want to install after the fact, and they are any floating floor system or a perimeter glued vinyl floor.
These types of flooring need to be able to free float, so to speak, and having the base cabinets sitting directly on them would not allow the floor to move as it is supposed to.
Once your floor is down, measure up from any spot of the floor against a wall and place a mark at thirty inches.
Carefully draw a level line around the walls where the cabinets are going to be placed.
Measure up every two feet and find the smallest measurement, and mark where that location is.
This is the high point of your floor.
Measure up from the floor at this location thirty four and a half inches and redraw a level line where the cabinets are going to be installed.
This will represent the top of the base cabinets and will serve as your reference point for the wall cabinets as well.
