Romantic Castle Trips Through Germany
- Because of its rocky history, Germany isn't always the first place people think of when they think of romance. However, Germany is rich with beautiful scenery, exquisite castles and flowing rivers. This lovely scenery is ideal for a romantic vacation, and there are several popular German castle tours.
- The All Bavaria tour by Toot Tours (toot-tours.com) is a nine-day tour "From its southern parts in the Alps, along the most important River Danube, to Franconia in the North, Germany's most romantic area," according to Toot. For about €240 a day, you will see sights like the Moorish pavilion at Linderhof Castle and Neuschwanstein Castle. Toot also offers night tours, where participants dress up in full medieval costumes.
- A La Carte Germany Tours (a-la-carte-germany-tours.com) offers private drivers and escorts to assist couples on a tour of German castles. Highlights include the UNESCO world heritage site in Bergstrasse, and the city of Heidelberg and its majestic castle. This romantic vacation lasts for 15 days and can cost between $16,000 and $28,000, depending on the number of couples on the tour. Plan your trip three to six months ahead to ensure that they can accommodate you.
- See Germany by water via a Roessler Line Boat Trip (roesslerlinie.de). "Along the way you will see many majestic castles and the hiding places of robber knights. You will be told of, and see castle treasures," explains the Roessler website. This tour is available for castle visits from Easter to November. Tickets start at €9,000.
