The Problem

Getting the most from selling on eBay can be a tricky business. There are so many people selling on eBay these days, so how can you make sure that your auctions get the money they deserve. I've been playing Magic the Gathering for over 10 years now, and have been buying and selling Magic the Gathering cards on eBay for the majority of that period. I have learnt many hidden secrets that the average eBay user tends to either not know about, or ignore. Maximise your earnings from eBay, here's an insight into what's possible.

The Fundamentals

One of the most important things to learn about any selling process is that you need to market your item properly otherwise, firstly no one will find your item, and secondly, if they do find your item, they wont be interested enough to buy your item. So the key is in optimising the tools available in eBay to be able to market your item to its full potential. The following fundamentals can be used to maximise your selling potential on eBay, and will help you to successful market your Magic the Gathering cards:

Use Keywords in your titles - sounds simple, but it's amazing how many people get this wrong. You need to make sure that the title on each of your items accurately describes your item, and is going to advertise your item as much as possible. You only have a short number of characters for your items title, 55 in total, so make them count - use as many as possible. Make sure you have as many of the following terms in your title as you can:
  • Magic
  • MTG
  • Magic the Gathering
  • Card Name
  • Card Set
  • Quantity
  • Foil (if applicable)
  • Bulk (if applicable)

Always have one premium item on sale - one important thing to remember is that your items are good at cross-promoting each other. Now, this premium item can be a chase rare or mythic rare, a big bulk collection, or a special foil - they will all attract plenty of buyers to your auctions. Once people are looking at your auctions, you can be assured that they will have a look at your other auctions too, so having this one gem is vital.

Make sure you have a featured auction in My World - everyone has a My World page whether they realise it or not; this is your free personal advertising space on eBay. On your My World page you can highlight a featured auction that you want to attract people to - use this to promote your premium auction as mentioned above and get people flocking to your auctions!

Summary

Give these 3 simple tips a try with your next batch of sales on eBay. It's amazing the difference these 3 simple tips can make to your efforts to sell Magic the Gathering cards on eBay.
