Founded in 1904, The Jewish Museum features permanent and temporary exhibits that explore Jewish values and traditions through art and artifacts. The museum has been in its current home along Museum Mile since 1947, and its permanent collection features over 26,000 items making it the largest and most important collection of its kind in the world.

The museum's exhibits are interactive and welcoming to both Jewish and non-Jewish visitors who seek to learn more about Jewish culture, history and heritage.

In addition to a variety of special exhibitions, the museum features two permanent exhibitions. Spanning two floors and featuring 800 objects from the Museum's collection Culture and Continuity: The Jewish Journey strives to illustrate and examine the evolution of the Jewish experience over 4,000 years. They offer great programs and exhibits for children and families. For younger visitors, the Archaeology Zone: Discovering Treasures from Playgrounds to Palaces allows children to play archeologist, as they dress up, dig for artifacts and explore this interactive exhibit.

Admission to the museum includes daily docent-led tours through selected exhibits, lasting 45 minutes each. The Jewish Museum offers a variety of programs, including lectures, workshops and screenings to enhance the museum's exhibits. Some are included with the cost of museum admission, but many require additional ticketing/charges.

Good to Know About The Jewish Museum:
  • All visitors to the museum will pass through a security screening before entering the museum.


  • Checkroom services are free.
  • Umbrella strollers are allowed in the permanent exhibition galleries, but not in the special exhibition galleries, due to space limitations. There are some umbrella strollers available for loan at the coat room if you need one.
  • On Saturdays, admission is free, but the Shops, children's exhibition, Cafe Weissman, and electronic and interactive exhibits are not available.
  • Sundays offer lots of special programming for families, including drop-in art workshops, concerts, and family concerts.
