Dogs are man's best friend, so go out and play with your friends! I want to share with you some tricks for training your buddy to play fetch and other games with you.
I find it very useful to use an interactive, indestructible dog toy during training.
They learn to associate the toy with fun and making you happy.
Dogs, when raised with kindness, have a great instinct to want to please their human companions.
They want to make you happy, because that makes them happy.
So keeping that in mind, begin with the knowledge that even when the dog is not performing the task well, they are still trying to please you.
Keeping in mind that it takes patience to train a dog.
We will start with "fetch".
First, grab that indestructible dog toy.
Then find a path with barriers on two sides.
A hallway works well for this.
The idea is to give the dog only two directions to follow, toward you and away from you.
Roll or throw the toy down the path and say a keyword, like "fetch" of "get it".
When the dog retrieves the item, call them back to you.
When they return reward them with lots of attention and or a treat.
If you choose food item as a treat you should slowly remove that from play time once the dog has the hang of playing the game.
Again, remember to begin with the end result in mind.
Keeping focus on what you want the dog to do and not what they are doing will help reduce your anxiety level and raise your friends excitement level too.
