1996 Dodge Avenger Specs
- Unlike the Avenger that debuted in 2008, the 1996 Dodge Avenger comes in only a coupe format. Dodge offered two trim levels, with engine output being the most obvious difference between the two. The ES trim level comes with dual front airbags and ABS brakes as standard features, while the base trim level offers the same safety features as options.
- The base trim level of the Avenger comes with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine with 16 valves and dual overhead cams. The block produces a peak 140 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 133 pound-feet of torque at 4,800 RPM. The engine's bore comes in at 3.23 inches while the stroke comes in at 3.68 inches, helping to make the engine's compression ratio 10.3 to 1. The ES trim level comes with a larger and more powerful engine, a 2.5-liter V6 block with 24 valves but only a single overhead cam. The engine's output measures 163 horsepower peaking at 5,500 RPM and 170 pound-feet of torque peaking at 4,350 RPM. The engine's bore measures larger than in the smaller engine, coming in at 3.29 inches while the stroke measures less at 2.99 inches. The larger engine's compression ratio is not as high, either, at 9.4 to 1.
- The Avenger's body measures 187.2 inches long, 68.5 inches wide and 51.2 inches tall. The car's front and rear tracks measure an almost identical width, with 59.4 inches up front and 59.2 inches in the rear. The car's wheelbase measures 103.7 inches long. The Avenger does not weigh a surprising amount considering its size, with the base measuring 2,957 pounds and the ES measuring 3,124 pounds.
- Even though the Avenger only has two doors, it contains seating inside for five people. The space inside the car overall favors the front seat occupants. The legroom in the front seats totals 43.3 inches while in the rear seats it totals only 34 inches, providing a problem if taller people try to sit in the rear seats. The seats provide more equal shoulder and hip room to the front and rear occupants. The front seats offer 52.8 inches of shoulder room and 53.8 inches of hip room, while the back seats offer 54.7 inches of shoulder room and 49.3 inches of hip room. The front occupants also get more headroom, totaling 39.1 inches, while the rear seat occupants get 36.5 inches worth.
