How to Keep Your Golf Swing Simple
I always like to work with about 73 swing thoughts when I'm over the ball for a shot don't you? Actually, there's nothing else worse than having a swing that's too complicated because guess what, a complicated swing is rarely based on good, simple golf swing fundamentals.
All of the pros have the basics down and unless you're already shooting 67s, you might want to find out these 3 tips on how to simplify your golf swing to lower your golf score.
Tip #1: Eliminate your joints.
There are various joints in your swing that you do not want to be thinking about when you swing a golf club.
Your wrist will never overpower your hips so don't try to manage your wrist movements when your hips want to do the talking.
In other words, focus on following through with your hips instead of trying to flick your wrists into the ball.
There are a few other joints you'll want to keep quiet if you want to make your golf swing simple.
Tip #2: Lean back.
Tons of amateur golfers move their bodyweight and thus their center of gravity forward during their golf swing.
Though this seems correct, you'll notice that at the finish of a pro golfer's swing, their center of gravity is behind their hips.
They've driven their hips forward to get power from them but they haven't left the ground and transferred their center of gravity forward which in turn allows them to put all of their power into the ball and not past the ball.
You don't need to understand this tip, you just need to do it.
Don't start leaning back to the point that you're falling backwards, just make sure your center of gravity is well supported and more so on your back leg throughout your swing.
Think about how the pros drive their hips into their block leg (their front leg).
They wouldn't be able to do so if they didn't keep their drive leg (back leg) engaged with the ground.
If you transfer too much weight off of that back leg, you'll lose power and start complicating your golf swing to find it when it's been right where you started all along.
There's more to this but at least you've got some awareness of this tip now.
Tip #3: Tighten your stomach.
Core Power is becoming huge in golf and it's fast becoming common place to engage your core during a golf swing among the touring pros and there's no reason you can't take advantage of it for the same distance benefits and overall golf swing stability they're enjoying on tour from using their core.
To engage your core during your shots, simply draw your lower stomach in towards your spine to tighten and fire your abdominal muscles.
Draw your stomach in at a center point of about two inches below your belly button.
Try to pull that spot in towards your spine and hold it in during your golf swing.
This may be a touch awkward at first but over time, this will link your entire body together and definitely simplify your swing motion because it will cause everything to move together during your shots.
These tips should have you shooting much lower much more often than you have in the past in no time at all.
