With Indian women coming out of their shell and facing the world head on, the fashion trends seem to have reversed- we see women flaunting manly shirts, suits, boots and hats and men opting for more feminine scarves, ties, shapes and cuts. If this is men's gesture to encourage the new Indian woman I know not, but boy! It is fashionably hot!

Unlike the general neutral and reserved colors like black, brown, navy blue, cream, dark violet etc, that are seen everywhere during winter season, most of the Fall/winter 2011/12 collection was bright and unconventional. The models were seen walking the ramp wearing colorful designs in neon orange, purple, sky blue and others. The designers did not just present this surprisingly bright look for winters for the first time but also used these colors in daring combinations, giving this winters a completely new and different look.

Besides creating a colorfully new style mantra for this winter, the style gurus also invented hot and sexy designs by cross-connecting different textures. Silk was used with fur and knitwear, leather became shinier with sequined patterns on it, and what's more, even plastic got along with chiffon and wool! Sounds weird doesn't it?

Let's just hope it doesn't look so weird.
But all this is too bold and risky for a common Indian woman. Not all of us have manish malhotra and Valentino dressing us up on every occasion! So let's step back a little and talk about the more reasonable and easily adoptable fashion trends this winter. Elegance is the key to be stylish and trendy this season. When I say elegant styling I mean the 40's era of midi and maxi skirts and high necked shirts. Its time you bring back the history to your present and reinvent it. Opt for longer length skirts with prints like tiny polka dots, girly paisley and bold flowers.

And of course the mean attraction of the 40's- the pleats and frills! Pleats, frills, cute rosettes and embroidery preserve fragility and add beauty to feminity. Funky knit sweaters and furs continue to hold an eternal position in the world of winter trends. And of course, we cant leave out leather can we? Remember the golden rule - never forget leather in winters. It is one of the hottest materials in the world and you just can not afford to skip this one on your fashion list. Bottoms, jackets or shoes, if its leather - wear it!

Fashion trends in India have evolved over the years. While our traditional wear continues to hold a special place in our hearts, the western style has been ale to make its way to our wardrobes. This winter whether you keep it traditional or western, just don't forget to keep it unconventional.
