How Is Cash Arranged in a Cash Drawer?
- Most cash drawers vertically hold each bill denomination and also checks. By taking special pains to organize the cash drawer correctly, the chances of overchanging a customer are reduced, and accuracy when balancing the drawer is increased.
- Starting with checks on the left, bills should be separated by denomination that descend from large to small ($20 bills to $1 bills). Each bill should be placed in its compartment with the president's face up and with his head aimed to the left.
- There are smaller compartments for coins right below the compartments for bills. Coins should be separated by quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies. The compartment to the far left in the coin area is for odd or uncommon coins that are not often collected during the day such as half-dollars, silver dollars and gold coins.
