If the car rental agency you chose does not provide the driver's license, then you can visit a local police station to obtain the license.
This license is temporary and is typically good for a year's use.
This will allow you to use it on your return to the island within a 365 day period since issue.
A requirement to being issued the license is that you need to be at least 21 years old but not more than 65 years old.

you have been issued a valid driver's license for 3 or more years.
It is best to bring your driving records with you, including your driver's license issued in your country of reference for counter checking.
Aside from needing a local driver's license, you will also need to be aware of the rules imposed by the Barbados car rental operator themselves.

Higher Car Rental Rates For Those Under 25 Years of Age
The rates for Barbados car rentals are quite affordable as compared to other Caribbean destinations but some do charge higher fees for drivers between 21 and 25 years old for the same reasons why your car insurance company charge higher premiums.
This additional fee is often referred to as a young drivers fee.

More Convenient Than Public Island Transportation
Having a rental car in Barbados is much more convenient than taking the local yellow or blue buses that you will see traveling the main coastal and town routes.
These buses often take more than 10 minutes to arrive.
The alternative white route vans operate much more frequently but can be cramped and quite an uncomfortable ride.

Cheaper Than Taking Taxi Cabs
Barbados car rentals will be much cheaper than taking taxi cabs throughout your vacation in Barbados.

You must remember that Barbados has narrow roads some of which do not have a sidewalk.
You therefore will need to be very aware of how much space you have between your car and oncoming traffic and will also find pedestrians walking on the road.

Driving in Barbados is on the left so you should think twice if you have been right-driving for years.
