    • 1). Consult the manufacturer documentation supplied by the camper manufacturer to determine the color-coding of the wiring harness. In a typical three-wire harness, the ground-to-vehicle wire should be white, the tail lights/running lights/license plate wire should be brown, and the 12-volt supply wire should be red and/or black. In a five-wire harness, the extra two wires should be yellow to the left turn/brake light and green to the right turn/brake light.

    • 2). Consult the manufacturer documentation supplied by the pickup manufacturer or tow package installer to determine the color-coding of the wiring loom. In a four-pin loom, typically, the ground-to-vehicle wire should be white; the tail lights/running lights/license plate wire should be brown; the left turn/brake light wire should be yellow and the right turn/brake light wire should be green. In a seven-pin loom, the extra three wires should be a 12-volt supply wire insulated red and/or black, an electric brake control wire insulated blue and an auxiliary/reversing lights wire insulated purple.

    • 3). Branch into the wires supplying the trailer plug of the pickup's tow package, making and then insulating one connection at a time. Use your wire cutters to sever each supply wire, then use your wire strippers to remove half an inch of insulation from both ends and from the end of the appropriate wire in the camper harness.

    • 4). Twist the three stripped ends into one firm, rope-like braid and solder them together. When the join has cooled, insulate with a wire nut or proprietary electrical insulation tape.
