Genesis 2012 took place on January 8, 2012, at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. Mike Tenay and Taz were the commentators for this show.
Four Corners Match for the X Division Championship: Champion Austin Aries vs. Kid Kash vs. Jesse Sorensen vs. Zema Ion - Kid Kash was eliminated from the bout after getting pinned by Zema Ion following a 450 splash. A few minutes later, Zema Ion was pinned by Jesse Sorensen with a small package.

Zema then spent a few moments arguing with the referee and that resulted in the referee missing pin falls by both of the remaining competitors. Instead of going to the back, Zema hid at ringside outside of the view of the referee. When Jesse went up to the top rope, Zema crotched him on the top turnbuckle. Austin Aries then hit the Avalanche Brainbuster to get the win. Winner: Austin Aries

D'Angelo Dinero vs. Brother Devon - Devon's sons, Terrance and Terrell, were at ringside rooting on their new father figure, the Pope. When the Pope had Devon at a severe disadvantage, D'Angelo Dinero ordered Devon's kids into the ring and demanded they beat up their father. When they refused, D'Angelo beat up both of them. That fired up Devon who pinned D'Angelo with an inverted DDT following the Pope missing the D'Angelo Dinero Express. Following the bout, Devon celebrated with his sons. Winner: Devon

- Sting was scheduled for an interview with Jeremy Borash. Velvet Sky came out and discussed the future of the Knockouts Division with Sting.

She whispered her plan to keep Madison Rayne from interfering in the Knockouts match later tonight and he agreed to her plans for "The Velvet Touch".

Rob Van Dam vs. Gunner - Ric Flair was in the corner of Gunner. During the bout, Gunner pulled the mat away from the ringside area but the referee forced him to stop what he planned to do. A few minutes later, RVD went over the top ropes to hit Gunner but Flair pulled his man to safety. RVD crashed to the exposed concrete. Flair then distracted the referee which allowed Gunner to hit RVD with a DDT on the exposed concrete. He then rolled RVD back into the ring and easily got the win. Following the bout, paramedics came out and took RVD out of the ring on a stretcher. Winner: Gunner

Knockouts Championship: Champion Gail Kim vs. Mickie James - Prior to the bout, we found out that Velvet's Touch was a shark cage which Madison Rayne was locked in so she couldn't interfere in the bout. When Madison refused to enter the cage, Velvet tossed her into the cage which was then raised several feet up in the air. The cage didn't stop her from interfering though. Madison dropped a pair of brass knuckles down to Kim which she missed and the referee retrieved. While he was getting rid of them, she dropped another pair which Mickie James wound up getting control of. Mickie was then disqualified after the referee saw her hit the champion while wearing them. Winner: Gail Kim via DQ

Monster's Ball Match: Abyss vs. Bully Ray - If Abyss loses this bout then he would be forced to rejoin Immortal. The ringside area was filled with several dangerous weapons including several boards with barbed wire. When Abyss brought out, Bully Ray left the ring but Abyss dragged him back from the back. On the way back to the ring, Abyss was tossed into one of the barbed wire boards which sliced open his left arm. Abyss gained control of the bout when he used a cheese grater on the nether regions of Bully Ray. Bully Ray was then able to kick out of a choke slam through a table. A few minutes later, Abyss kicked out of a choke slam onto a barbed wire board. Bully Ray then sandwiched Abyss between two of the boards and hit a splash off of the top rope. After Abyss kicked out of that, Bully Ray grabbed Janice. Abyss ducked out of the way and delivered a choke slam onto a patch of thumbtacks. After kicking out, Bully Ray started whacking Abyss was a kendo stick. Abyss finally put an end to the carnage when he gave Bully Ray a Black Hole Slam onto one of the barbed wire boards. Winner: Abyss

TNA Tag Team Championship: Champions Crimson & Matt Morgan vs. Samoa Joe & Magnus - During the bout, cameras cut to the back where Abyss and Bully Ray were continuing their brawl. The champions gained the advantage when Crimson tossed Samoa Joe into the steps. He then reentered the ring and along with his partner delivered a double choke slam to Magnus to get the win. Winners: Matt Morgan and Crimson

James Storm vs. Kurt Angle - James was able to get a 2 count after hitting a "Macho Man" elbow. He then went for the Last Call but Kurt pulled the referee in the way which caused him to not finish the move. The disoriented referee then missed Kurt kick James in the groin. Kurt followed that up with a kick to the head to get the win. Winner: James Storm

- A cameraman goes to Bully Ray and asks where Abyss is. Bully asks how is he supposed to know while he was wiping blood off of his hands.

TNA World Heavyweight Championship: Champion Bobby Roode vs. Jeff Hardy - When Jeff went up to the top rope for a Swanton, the champion rolled out of the ring and tried to keep the title by losing by count out since the title can only change hands via pin fall or submission. Once they got back into the ring, Jeff hit a Twist of Fate and a Whisper in the Wind but was only able to get a 2 count. When Jeff went for another Twist of Fate, Bobby Roode tried to leave the arena again. After getting back into the ring, the champion kicked the referee in the gut to hold onto the title. After the decision was announced, Jeff hit a Swanton Bomb and then tossed the title over the prone body of the champion. Winner: Jeff Hardy via DQ

What does this event mean for the future?
From the way things ended tonight, I think there will be rematches of the final two bouts from this show at Against All Odds. I also have a bad feeling in my gut that Abyss was kidnapped by Immortal tonight. In all of my years of watching wrestling, I have never seen an abduction angle end well or result in any good matches.

Overall Thoughts
I have to admit that I wasn't too enthusiastic about watching this show. I was really enjoying the Steelers-Broncos game which I had to shut off at 8:00 and then I got a little bit ornery when I found out that I missed another case of Tebow Time to end that game. Unlike the great ending of that game, this show ended horribly. Two straight months of championship matches without a decisive winner is not a way to treat your fans that pay for these shows. It will be very insulting for them if the inevitable rematch between these two men is held on IMPACT WRESTLING just like the overtime period for last month's main event was. Before the bad ending of this show, my thumbs were in the middle as I enjoyed something about every match. The ending of the show has forced me to give this show a slight thumbs down.
