Laster - Wijsgeer & Narreman Review

Laster are a duo from the Netherlands playing Burzum inspired black metal, plain and simple. Picture Hvis Lyset Tar Oss or Filosofem and you’ve got the gist of it. Although unoriginal, Laster have the shtick down pat with grim “kvlt” aesthetics combined with a hint of epic sweep and majesty.

Wijsgeer & Narreman is a three song demo released earlier this year that is now being given a (slightly) wider distribution with an official MCD pressing.

The three songs adhere to the aforementioned Burzum influences with good results; a pleasing mix of soothing low-fi black metal.

However, there are no surprises whatsoever, and Wijsgeer & Narreman ends up a rather typical example of the genre with hints of majestic overtones, nothing more, and nothing less. Genre fans will certainly be interested in this limited release of Wijsgeer & Narreman, but there’s really nothing new here for the casual listener of low-fi black metal.
