Nikon FG Instructions
- 1). Open the battery compartment. Locate the battery compartment on the bottom of the camera and use a coin to turn the slot until the battery harness slips out. Insert two S76 batteries into the harness and replace the compartment.
- 2). Locate the film-winding dial on the left-hand side of the top of the camera body and pull upward to release the film door---this will expose the interior of the camera. Place a fresh roll of film in the left-hand side of the chamber and bring the film across the shutter. Insert the end tab of the film into the slot on the take-up spool, aligning the sprockets on the film; wind slightly. Close the film door, push the winding reel down and use the film advance to advance the film until the exposure counter reaches the first number.
- 3). Compose and meter your image. Press the shutter button halfway to activate the light meter. The needle will point to the shutter speed appropriate for the current aperture setting.
- 4). Select your mode. The FG offers Automatic Program mode, which selects the aperture and shutter speed. It also features Aperture Priority mode (which selects the shutter speed when the photographer selects the aperture) and manual mode. Select your mode, then use the dial on the left to select the shutter speed, or the ring near the lens to select the aperture. Adjust the settings until they match the meter reading.
- 5). Press the shutter button to take your picture. Once the image is taken, use the winder arm on the right to advance to the next frame. Continue taking pictures until the film counter has reached the number of exposures included on your film roll.
- 6). Press the release button located on the bottom of the camera to disengage the film-advance mechanism. Flip the winder arm out of the left-hand dial and rewind the film until the handle moves freely. Pull up on the film-winder dial and open the film door. Remove the film for processing.
