How to Hook Up House Batteries in a Sea View Motor Home by National RV
- 1). Connect the batteries in series if you need an increased delivery of volts. This means running the connector cable from one battery's positive pole to the next battery's negative pole. NRV motor homes invariably used 12-volt appliances and wiring looms, so this would be an incorrect connection method.
- 2). Connect the batteries in parallel. if you need an increased delivery of amp-hours. This means running the connector cables from one battery's positive pole to the next battery's positive pole, and from one battery's negative pole to the next battery's negative pole. This would be the only safe connection method.
- 3). Use 4-gauge wire to connect the batteries, color-coded red for the positive sections and black for the negative. Proprietary battery terminal connectors are available at most auto parts stores and must be used at both ends of each wire section.
- 4). Use proprietary straps and clamps, available from most auto parts stores, to prevent the batteries moving when the Sea View is in motion.
- 5). Check the existing harness to ensure power can be conducted from your batteries to the Sea View's coach circuits. On the positive side of the batteries, close to the battery positive terminal, there should be a battery disconnect switch followed by a physically large in-line fuse that on some models is 100 amps. Ensure the disconnect switch is on, and the fuse is functional, not blown.
