How to Resole Climbing Shoes
- 1). Remove the old rubber sole from your climbing shoes by heating the sole with a heat lamp. Hold the rubber under the heat for at least 30 seconds. Use your pliers to peel away the soles of your climbing shoes.
- 2). Place one of your shoes on top of the new rubber and trace out its pattern with a pencil. Leave an extra ¼-inch around the pattern you have drawn.
- 3). Cut out the pattern using a utility knife to come up with new soles for your climbing shoes.
- 4). Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the pair sole. Bevel the edges of the sole using your sander.
- 5). Use old newspaper to stuff the inside of your shoes in order for them to keep their form.
- 6). Apply strong glue onto the cut-out rubbers from steps 2 and 3 and attach it to the sole of your shoe. See to it that there is an even overlap around the entire sole. Use your hammer and pliers to pinch on the new soles and seal the new rubber to your shoes.
- 7). Turn on your heat lamp and place the new soles above it for heating. The heat from the lamp will allow the new soles to tightly glue onto the soles of your climbing shoes.
- 8). Wrap the shoes with tape and leave them to dry overnight. Remove the tape in the morning, and use your scissors to cut out any excess rubber. Use your sander to finish sanding the shoes.
