    • 1). Visit your local library and ask the librarian for Baja, Mexico phone book. Libraries have a large number of phone books, but they’re often located behind the counter and you need to ask to gain access to them. You may be able to request one from an affiliated library. Alternatively, you’ll find that the Mexico Yellow Pages has its own website where you can search for businesses and individuals in Baja (see Resources).

    • 2). Hire a private investigator to do the legwork for you. A private investigator often has access to more resources than private citizens do and can locate anyone even if that person doesn’t want to be found. If you have the money, hiring a private investigator might be your best bet.

    • 3). Try an online discussion board. These online networks reach across borders, and someone might know someone else who knows the person you are looking for. See Resources for the "Alex and Google" example. Alex was looking for a friend he met in the U.S. who later went back to Mexico. He posted his question on Google Answers and found someone who knew his friend. She later got in contact with him.

    • 4). Look for people who are related to the individual or have the same name and live in the same area. Contact those people and ask about your long-lost friend. You may stumble across your friend’s brother or sister just by calling and asking for help. In addition, you can contact the Mexican government for help in your search. They may be able to point you in the right direction toward finding your long-lost friend.

    • 5). Remember that Baja, Mexico, is also known as Baja California. Use both terms in your online searches.
