Are Computers Taking Over Your Local Community Library? They Already Took Over Ours
Patrons of the libraries around the nations are bringing in their own personal laptops to use the WiFi system rather than read through periodicals or reference books.
Perhaps this is because everything is already online.
One interesting thing about community libraries is that when the economy is hurting more and people have more free time they start filling up the libraries.
Some go there to find information about how to get a job or to brush up on information so they are more qualified for a job that they might like to get into, perhaps a different industry.
Since most libraries now have computers people that are members of the library can go and use the computers for free and this is filling up the libraries.
It also means cities or counties that pay for these library services have more people working in them and while this provides more jobs, this additional cost is effecting their budget money at a time when there is not the tax revenue there once was.
Does this mean that someday libraries and books will not be needed? No, probably not, rather both books as we know them and libraries will merely adapt to the needs of the patrons, population, and readers of references, novels, and periodicals.
After all, the only constant is change.
