Techniques to Paint an RC
- Use a can of Pactra spray paint to apply a single coat of your first color onto the interior side of the body shell. Spray it on thin; you don't want to make it entirely opaque. Use a paper towel to blot the paint off before it dries. Touch the paper towel to the coat of paint to remove it in a random pattern, then leave it to dry. Apply a second coat with a different color once your initial color has dried. Let the two colors dry and follow up with a nice even coat of white paint to fill in any remaining gaps in the color scheme.
- Hold the can of Pactra spray paint close to the body shell (about 4 inches). Cover the area with a dense, opaque coat; then, to begin the fade, slowly move your hand away from the body shell. Increase the distance between the nozzle and the body shell to taper off the fade. Let this coat dry and apply your second color on top to render a nice fade from one color into the next.
- Coat the interior of the body shell with liquid masking and allow it to dry. Draw lines with a permanent marker to outline where you want the rip lines to appear. These lines can be as jagged or smooth as you want. Use an exacto knife to cut along these lines and peel off the main body section. Apply the background color with a can of Pactra spray paint. Let the first coat dry. Then peel off the remainder of the masking. Apply another color to the remainder of the body shell to render a nice rip look. Also, instead of removing the remainder of the mask all at once, you can trim an inch or so off the edge, then apply a second color. Repeat this with as many colors as you'd like to get a crazy spectrum-rip look.
- Coat the area of the body you wish to place lighting bolts with liquid masking. Let the masking dry, then lightly trace lightning shapes on the masking surface. when you're satisfied with the design, cut out the bolts with an exacto knife. Peel off the masking from the lighting bolts, then apply several coats of white Pactra spray paint. Let the bolts dry, then trim about a half inch of the masking from the border of the lightning. Apply a silver or purple color from a distance to render a haze sort of look. Let this dry. Then peel the remainder of the masking off and spray the background color to fill the rest of the body.
