Thor Storms Into Theaters This May
If you stuck around after the end of the credits for Iron Man 2, you were lucky enough to see what was essentially a sneak-peak at the upcoming THOR film coming out May 6, 2011.
Agent Coulson, played by the incomparable Clark Gregg -- star of Old Christine and about 100 films, was called in to investigate the government's latest and top-secret finding..
the Thor's hammer in the middle of a deep crater in the earth...
Thor being the legendary God of Thunder.
Even in a world where Tony Stark could be Iron Man, a God of Thunder existing..
a God..
is beyond what most people can imagine.
Marvel Studios brings Jack Kirby and Stan Lee's creation to life in the upcoming THOR movie.
With the success that Iron Man had in theaters, Marvel has again decided to bring another B-list character of theirs to the Silver Screen.
Most people have heard of the god Thor, but his comicbook counterpart at Marvel isn't so well known, this film aims to change that.
To reach that aim, Marvel has engaged the services of legendary actor and director Kenneth Branagh -- famous for his Shakespearean efforts in film and plays amongst other things.
In choosing who would play the famed God of Thunder, a wide casting call was undertaken.
Actors such as True Blood's Alexander SkarsgÄrd and WWE's John Cena were considered.
In the end they chose Chris Hemsworth, who is little known outside of playing James Kirk's father in the latest Star Trek reboot.
While not as well-known as some of the other actors considered, the recent trailer shows that they made the right choice.
He definitely looks physical enough to play the role if nothing else.
In casting Thor's father -- the one-eyed God Odin -- they brought Sir Anthony Hopkins to the role.
With talents such as Branagh and Hopkins involved, the new film promises to be epic and Shakespearian in size and scope.
It'll as much Lord of the Rings as it is superhero epic such as Iron Man.
Rounding out the cast is Black Swan's Natalie Portman as love interest Jane Foster, and Tom Middleston as Thor's evil twisted brother Loki.
Following on the Thor movie will be the upcoming Captain America film starring Chris Evans, followed by the long awaited Avengers film to be directed by Joss "Buffy" Whedon.
DC's coming out with Ryan Reynold's Green Lantern film about a month after Thor, followed by a film adaption of The Flash a few months later.
Black Swan's Darren Aronofsky is directing the upcoming Wolverine film coming out around the same time.
Studios are starting to take superheroes seriously.
Looks like it's a great time to not only be a fan, but also to be a movie-goer.
