    • When looking for a new credit card, there are a variety of choices to consider. Many credit card companies offer cash rewards, in the form of gift cards or otherwise, if you follow the companies reward plan. Each package is different, so make sure to investigate all your options, read the fine print and find out which one is best for you.

    Citi Forward Credit Card

    • The Citi Forward Credit Card has a cash reward program that offers 5,000 points for signing up for a paperless statement and 6,000 points when you make at least $250 worth of purchases in the first three months. Totaled together, that is enough for a $75 dollar gift card. For each billing cycle that you pay your minimum balance on time, you receive 100 points. You also get 5 points for every dollar spent on entertainment, such as books, movies, music and restaurants, along with one point for every dollar spent on other purchases.

      The APR on the card is 0 percent for the first six months, and raises to 14.24 percent afterward, along with 21.99 percent on cash advances. Your APR can be reduced by 25 percent if you pay your minimum balance on time for at least three months in a row.

    The Discover More Card

    • The Discover More card offers 5 percent cash back on purchased items such as gas, groceries and resturants, and 1 percent on other items. Discover offers specials, such as 0 percent APR on new purchases for six months, when an APR of between 11.99 percent and 18.99 percent will take effect on your balance and any new purchases. The APR is determined by your payment history and credit score, so to qualify for a lower APR, make sure to pay your bills on time. The APR is substancially higher for any cash advances, up to 28.99 percent.

    The Chase Freedom Card

    • The Chase Freedom card offers 3 percent cash back on selected categories, such as home improvement, gas and restaurants, 1 percent on other items, and up to 20 percent cash back when you shop online through various chase affiliated merchants. Chase also allows you to turn your cash back rewards into air miles, gift cards or statement credits for your card balance.

      The APR is 0 percent on new purchases for the first full year of your card, as long as you stay within the terms of your contract, which include paying your monthly minimum on time. After that, the APR increases to between 12.99 percent and 17.99 percent depending on your payment and credit history. For cash advances, the APR can vary between 19.24 percent and 23.34 percent.
