Dodge Truck Steering Problems
- Dodge truck power steering has reacted to outside temperature when parked or run in extreme cold weather. The power steering pump has been known to fail in vehicles when the temperature falls below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Additionally, unrelated to weather, early 2001 models were known to have seal ruptures, causing loss of turning power.
- A number of truck models have experienced what is described as shimmying. On 4x4 trucks, the steering vibration has been narrowed to a bad track bar. Additionally, inadequate tire quality and bad shocks can transfer control problems through the steering.
- Dodge trucks manufactured from 1994 through 2002 suffered inaccurate steering as a result of design problems. The steering column lower bushing allowed excessive wiggle and quickly degenerated . The result was clunking or popping sounds coming from the vehicle on rough terrain and bad steering.
