High A1c

• An A1c over 8 is considered high and shows sugars have been elevated. This puts a person at much higher risk for kidney, eye and nerve damage.
  
  

Causes of High A1c

• Some causes of this high A1c are eating the wrong foods that elevate sugars, stress, lack of exercise and infections.
  
  

Course of Action

• If the A1c is over 8, then action needs to be taken to prevent damage to vital organs. You will need to work with your doctor to change medicines, diet and exercise to get it decreased.
  
  

The Test

• Hemoglobin is found in red blood cells and it carries oxygen from the lungs to the body. When sugars are high, it builds up in the blood and connects with hemoglobin which can be tested.
  
  

Contraindications and Errors

• Certain blood disorders like anemia can alter this test and make the results wrong. Also supplements like vitamin C and E and high cholesterol levels can change the results.
