How to Design VW Van Interior
- 1). Look at as many pictures of other VW van interiors as you can find to get inspiration for your own design. You can look at catalogues in the library or you can check out sites like Baron von Kronken that have galleries of custom VW interiors. (See Resources)
- 2). Think about your personal van usage. If you love camping, you probably want enough free space in the back to lay an air mattress. If you are dreaming of living in your van while making a cross-country trip, it's possible to install a small sleeping area and a kitchenette in the back. If you mostly use the back of your van for hanging out with friends, you probably want some comfortable seating. If you transport a big family, though, you'll need to keep some kind of seating with safety belts.
- 3). Draw a plans for your van interior. You may want to preserve the driver and passenger seat and dashboard and only customize the back, or you may want to remodel the entire inside of your van. Measure the interior of the space you want to remodel so that you know exactly how much material you need to buy for flooring and furniture if you plan to do the work yourself.
- 4). Create a theme for your new interior. Choose colors and fabrics that match. Be sure to match the front of the van to the back of the van. If you decide on a color scheme and patterns before you begin working, then the end product will look much better than it will if you just buy things that catch your eye at random.
- 5). Choose a new flooring for the back of your van. You can choose material like linoleum if you need something easy to clean. If you want to make your van comfortable to hang out in, though, you might be more interested in something like shag carpeting.
- 6). Find a new material for the interior panelling of the van if you need to replace the old panelling. You can install regular auto panelling or you could go with something more luxurious like wood panelling.
- 7). Pick out new furniture for the interior of the van. If you need to transport passengers, then you need car seats that have seat belts. If you want to make your van a camper, you probably need a small booth for dining and place to sleep. You may want built-in storage like a trunk or shelves. If you use your van for hanging out, you can get cozy bean bags to sit on in the back.
- 8). Buy some curtains for the back windows. Regardless of what you plan to do in the back of your van, at some point you'll probably want some privacy.
