Safe House
Sami is wearing Rafe’s shirt and tries to hide her baby bump from him, but he quickly deduces that she’s pregnant and chews her out for not telling him. She lashes out at him for insulting her, claiming that she’s only gained a couple of pounds. Rafe apologizes for the way he’s been treating her, especially because of her condition. “There is no condition,” she lies. Rafe tells her to stop lying to him, admitting that he’s furious at her for not telling him or anyone else.
Sami claims she told her dad, who supposedly understands and respects her need for privacy. She expects the same from him. “Okay, and I expect you to cut the crap!” he retorts. “How dare you speak to me like that? Especially now?” she accuses.
Rafe rants how it never ends with her, rehashing how she drugged someone’s tea, tried to sneak out, and lied. She warns him to stay away from her, fuming how she’s ‘this close’ to strangling him. He refuses to stay away until she tells him the truth. Sami claims that her dad knows the whole story. “Then you won’t mind me calling him just to confirm the details, now would ya?” assumes Rafe. Sami insists that he can’t do that because Roman will be mad at her for telling him, referring to it as a very complicated situation. Rafe is too smart to fall for her lies, as he knows she didn’t tell anyone and proceeds to have a long chat with Roman about the situation. She asks him not to call Roman and offers to come clean.
“Okay. You’re right. I’m pregnant.
And nobody involved with the Witness Protection Program, including my dad, knows about it,” she confesses. Rafe is in disbelief and yells that it compromises the entire operation. Sami begins to cries how scared and sad she is that she can’t celebrate her baby, since all she can think about is running away and never coming back. She believes her baby’s father and his “whole stupid family” is going to destroy her child’s future. Rafe softens up and deduces that’s why she didn’t tell anyone about her pregnancy. Sami complains how she was going to tell to someone that day she saw the mayor shot, and now she’s stuck in this place with a guy who hates her. Rafe denies ever saying he hated her. A distressed Sami cries how she can’t get the mayor’s body out of her mind and how she doesn’t get to see her family or babies. Rafe jokes how it all explains why she’s such a control freak about everyone who was watching over her. “But it doesn’t excuse the fact that you have been wrong, stupid, and irresponsible,” he adds. Sami tells Rafe that he hasn’t had to deal with the baby’s father, revealing that it’s E.J. DiMera.
Sami tells Rafe about Stefano, referring to him as sadistic and evil, which is why she can’t tell E.J. that she’s carrying another one of his children. Rafe admits that he doesn’t think it’s so wrong for her to use this bizarre, tragic incident to keep the truth from E.J. Sami is relieved to hear that he understands, and now she has to figure out a credible way of ensuring that E.J. never finds out the baby is his. “Thank God now I’ve been given the time to do that,” she expresses. Rafe respects her decision, but points out that there’s an unborn child’s life at risk. Thus, he can’t keep it between them and needs to phone his superior.
Nicole’s Jail Cell
E.J. wishes he could get Nicole out of there right now. Nicole admits how it means everything that he trusts her. She expresses how the nightmare is starting to end with him on her side. He believes that for somebody out there, the nightmare is just beginning. Nicole doesn’t care who killed Trent just as long as she doesn’t go to prison for it. “Everything that I care about it standing right in front of me,” she expresses. Bo and Hope arrive, where Bo reveals that he spoke to the D.A. and recommended that she be released with a reasonable bail, but it doesn’t mean that the charges have been dropped. E.J. offers to take care of the bail. An ecstatic Nicole and E.J. share a brief kiss.
DiMera Mansion
E.J. brings Nicole back home ready to pamper her. Nicole is actually at a loss for words. E.J. asks her if she’s happy that she’s free. Nicole is glad that he thinks she’s innocent, but can’t get over the fact that he actually thought she was capable of murder. E.J. asks her not to hold a bit of initial confusion against him. “As much as I wanna be here, E.J., I have to say goodbye,” she insists. E.J. asks her to wait, believing there’s something else going on. He reminds her that she was going to test his theory about trust and wonders if it was a manipulation. She tells him he has it all wrong. “I wanted you to want me, E.J. Me!,” she affirms, as she rehashes how he suspected her of murder. E.J. thought they already had this conversation and thought they were finally beginning to connect with one another. She expresses how he says such lovely things to her, then he just goes away emotionally. E.J. admits he’s not the most demonstrative person. Nicole theorizes that he tries to force himself to have feelings for her because of their baby, then he goes back to wondering how he got mixed up with the likes of her. He asks her not to go. “We don’t always get what he want, do we?” she laments.
E.J. admits that he became very distant at the jail. He asks her not to go, believing that they’ve come a long way since she was arrested. She notes that he’s saying all the right things now, but wonders if it’s to keep his unborn child close. He brings up getting married again. “If we do that, I know that I cannot just give you a home and security, but I know that I can give you love,” he expresses. Nicole gets a glimmer of hope in her eyes and wonders if he’s telling her that he loves her. E.J. insists that if she gives them a chance and if they stay committed to one another as a family, they can all have a wonderful life. A reluctant Nicole asks if he’s really willing to work on this. He questions why she doesn’t believe him. “You know why, E.J. Because of Sami,” she replies. She accepts that Sami’s the mother of his child, but she can’t accept being the second woman in his life. He convinces her that he can let go of Sami, then kisses her.
