A crash course in how to start a successful advertising campaign for a home based business!

Any business needs leads, prospects, people to talk to. Call them whatever you want! Somehow you need to find people who are interested in hearing about your product or your service.

The way we do this in any business is advertising.

There are MANY forms of advertising you can use to promote yourself and your home based business.

The same forms of advertising apply whether you have traditional service or business right through to online home based businesses and Network Marketing companies.

If you are an independent distributor for a home business or network marketing company. Do check what your company rules allow you to do for advertising your home business. If your company is very restrictive you might be limited to purchasing leads rather than generating your own.

How much time do you have to advertise?

If you have 1 hour a day you need something that works for you. Think more internet advertising, newspapers, magazines. Anything that you can set up to return more leads back to you than you would be able to generate in that hour.

If you have plenty of time then your options for advertising your home business are more open. You can do lead generation methods that literally take more leg work (like mailbox flyers etc).

What's your budget?

Together with your available time this will be the driving factor in deciding what you can do. No point in relying on newspaper ads to generate leads for your home business. If you don't have the budget to place those ads.

Be realistic. Get your prices. Don't be tempted to just throw money at it and see what happens. Remember there are many ways to build your home business on a shoestring budget. If you have little or no budget this DOES NOT mean you cant still grow your home based business. You just need to be creative and find the ways you can. Or find someone knows who can teach you!

What's your skill level?

If you can barely send an email. Don't leap into internet advertising. Use ways off line to generate interest whilst you get better skills online.
There are lots of basic options for advertising and all good network marketing teams should have many ideas for you to choose from.

Everything works at the end of the day. So choose what you know can start with and work from there.

Where in the world do the customers/clients come from?

Which area to you want to generate interest in? Do you want enquires from the local area or doesn't it matter even which country they come from (as long as your home business operates in that country of course).

What advertising you use will depend on the area you are targeting. For example if you live in Australia but want to build a home business team in the States you are not going to do that using mailbox flyers. Remember you can use the internet for local advertising too. There are internet advertising options where you can be specific about the area you advertise in.

What do I put in the advert for my home business?

Unless you have proven copywriting skills then don't write your own ads. Follow what is recommended. And has been tried and tested for your particular home business. If you don't have anything available to you there are only 2 options. Pay a copy writer to write your home business advert. Or learn yourself and be prepared to make some mistakes along the way. The best starting point for this is other people's advertising. Those who have got it right of course. You can learn from their ideas (obviously changing the content to be relevant to your home business).

Lastly have a plan and be consistent!

Placing one newspaper ad for your home business is not going to get you to the top level. Ever! But consistent advertising builds momentum and this is the key to having streams of leads coming in on a regular basis when you are working from home.
