A Review of the PS3 Emulator

PS3 emulation was thought by many to be impossible. While the PS3 has lower specifications compared to the most advanced computers of today, Sony has foreseen this and has taken additional security measures in order to prevent PC emulation of their games. However, that did not stop a team of programmers to develop a working Sony PS3 Emulator for the PC - PSeMu3.

PSeMu3 is, currently, the only working PS3 emulator for Windows. Started out as a small project back in 2011 by cryptoxl33t and a group of passionate gamers, PSeMu3 has had many significant improvements besides allowing PC users to play their favorite PS3 games on PC. The latest build of PSeMu3, released last 12/4/2013, is able to emulate the hugely-popular Grand Theft Auto V, pleasing many fans of the franchise.

For a Sony PS3 Emulator, PSeMu3 is very lightweight, only taking up 30MB of space. However, it does not include several important files such as the ps3 emulator bios, which you can download on other websites. This is important, because without a ps3 emulator bios, you will not be able to use the emulator.

PSeMu3 does not have set system requirements, as the requirements depend entirely on the game you want to play. Therefore, it is recommended that you have a high-end rig if you want to play the majority of PS3 games.

As for its performance, PSeMu3 works very well. With a powerful computer, you can play PS3 games seamlessly at 720p @ 30fps - the maximum graphic settings of PS3. Of course, you will suffer from frame rate drops from time to time, but this is entirely normal as even PS3 players experience these, especially when there is too much action going on at the same time.

A great feature of the PSeMu3 emulator is that it can play games from different regions. It does not matter if you downloaded a game with NA (North America) or JP (Japan) settings, as you can play them without problems on PSeMu3. Another great feature is its capability of playing PS1 and PS2 games, thus removing the need for a separate PS1 / PS2 emulator. And again, you can play PS1 / PS2 games of various regions with no problems.

Along with its host of merits, comes its own set of demerits. One minor disadvantage of this emulator is that not all games will work fine with this emulator. You will inevitably experience some bugs and glitches when playing certain games, as well as rare crashes from time to time. Also, there are some troubles with file compatibility as well. Some.ISO files may not work with the emulator, so you might have to download several different copies of the game and check the one that works with it. But if these things won't deter you from playing your favorite PS3 games on your PC, then PS3eMu3 is the best PS3 emulator you can download.
