How to Make a Baby Sling Carrier
- 1). Choose your fabric. A cotton lycra blend is best because it's easy to work with, comfortable to wear, and can stretch. This makes it easier to support the baby's weight. Wash your fabric to make sure it's clean and safe for the baby to be in.
- 2). Measure and cut the fabric to be 22"x72". Lay the fabric out on a large flat surface. Fold it in half lengthwise, then again so that all four corners point and open to the right.
- 3). Take your ruler and measure 1 1/2" in front the open top right edge. Make a mark with a fabric or regular pencil. Do the same on the bottom right open edge. With your scissors cut a half smile from mark to mark so there is a large curve. Unfold the fabric width-wise. Sew the two ends together along the curve.
- 4). Flip the pouch you just created inside out. Now you will encase the seam you just sewed. Sew the new seam and cut off any excess fabric from the other side. Then sew the sling down to create a French seam.
- 5). Next create a 1/3" hem on the top and bottom edges of the sling. Your sling is done and ready to be worn.
