Innkeepers who fill up your gas tank?

With average regular unleaded prices nearly certain to remain above $2 USD for the summer months, will travelers stay home in larger numbers?

The hospitality industry is betting they will stay "closer" to home but travel despite the high fuel bills. Some are even willing to pay your gasoline tab.

This idea is not new. It was popular in 2004, when gas prices were lower than in 2005.

You must have liked it.

There are too many places trying this tactic to list all of them, so here are a few examples:

BedandBreakfast.com recently offered 32 properties across the United States that will pay for a tank (defined financially in a variety of ways) if you pay them a visit. The eligibility dates and terms vary by property. Most are in resort areas.

The Aspen Chamber of Commerce in Colorado announces 11 member inns will pay for a tank of gasoline when you book at least three nights.

Don't limit yourself to this or any other rebate list. When booking multiple nights these days, it never hurts to ask for a discount. Some owners are more than happy to give you $30 off the bill if it will encourage you to visit them.
