How to Go Hiking in El Dorado County California
- 1). Hike with the American River Conservancy. Based in Coloma, the nonprofit organization is dedicated to preserving the historic lands around the famed river where gold was first discovered. Their guided hikes range from easy treks among the flora on groomed trails to finding the remains of the Wakamatsu Silk and Tea Colony where original settler Okei San's grave still lies.
- 2). Arrange a goat hike with Earth Dancers. Several male and female goats carry knapsacks and other materials for hikes in the meadows of the foothills or into the Sierra Mountains. The hiking is easily paced for families with children.
- 3). Wheel along the Dave Moore Recreation Area between the towns of Coloma and Cool in El Dorado County. Wheelchairs and strollers can easily traverse the 1-mile loop trail that wends through wooded areas, open meadows and down to the American River.
