How to Start a Chihuahua Rescue in Florida
- 1). Create your Chihuahua Rescue building. Be sure that it is zoned correctly in the state of Florida and listed as a business in the Florida town where you live. Get the taxpayer ID number you need to have a business, and then list your business with the state and with the IRS.
- 2). Contact the ASPCA in Florida, as well as the Florida Human Society in the town nearest to you. Tell them that you are listed as a Chihuahua rescue, and give them your information. If they find Chihuahuas that need rescue, they will contact you. See Resources.
- 3). Contact both the AKC and the UKC. Be sure that they know you are a Chihuahua rescue organization. They will refer people to you when they want to adopt Chihuahuas, or when they have Chihuahuas in need of homes.
- 4). Give your name and information to local shelters and adoption centers. Make sure they know you are a Chihuahua rescue. In Florida, local shelters might put dogs to sleep if they cannot find homes for them, so be sure that they contact you prior to putting any Chihuahuas to sleep.
- 5). Open your doors to Chihuahuas that need to be re-homed. Be ready to accept any of them, get them proper medical care, and then try to find new homes for them.
