Company Information:

Judd and Barbara Jacobson founded Flying Wheels Travel in 1970 to assist persons with disabilities who want to travel. Judd Jacobson was a quadriplegic who truly understood the needs of travelers with disabilities, particularly wheelchair users. His wife, Barbara, continues to run the business after his death. Today, Flying Wheels Travel plans trips not only for clients with disabilities but also for persons with chronic illnesses, slow walkers and mature travelers.

Mission:  

Flying Wheels Travel helps travelers with disabilities and chronic illnesses see the world via land tours, ocean and river cruises and individualized vacation experiences.

Destinations:

Flying Wheels Travel offers tours to popular vacation spots around the world, including Europe, North America, South America, Australia and Asia. Cruise destinations include the Mediterranean, Alaska, Australia, Scandinavia, Russia, the British Isles, Turkey and Israel. Land tour options vary from year to year, but have included Japan, Germany, Peru, the Galápagos Islands, Cape Cod and Russia.

Tour Participant Demographics:

Participants in Flying Wheels Travel's tours and cruises are persons with disabilities or chronic illnesses and their families and friends. Mature travelers are also welcome on Flying Wheels Travel's cruises and tours.

Single Traveler Information:

Flying Wheels Travel charges a single supplement. On some tours, you can ask to be matched with a roommate.

Trip costs vary based on the length of your trip, mode of travel and destination.

Airfare is not included in your trip cost. Flying Wheels Travel quotes its prices in US dollars; contact Flying Wheels to get the latest pricing information if the trip you are considering takes you outside the US. Trip costs are also based on tour group size.

• Flying Wheels Travel's land tours are group experiences; everyone travels together with a Flying Wheels tour escort.
• If you need a travel companion for one or more people in your group, Flying Wheels Travel can arrange this for you. Flying Wheels contracts with two experienced travel companions who are available to work with solo travelers or with a group.
• Flying Wheels Travel can help you select accessible shore excursions for your cruise vacation.
• Cruise ships have a limited number of accessible staterooms, so you will want to book as far in advance as possible if you plan to take an accessible cruise, particularly for river cruises. Flying Wheels Travel's website includes information on the number of accessible staterooms available on each ship.
• Through Flying Wheels Travel, you can book an accessible European river cruise to the Netherlands or the Rhine River. The MS Alegria has 10 wheelchair-accessible staterooms and 22 barrier-free staterooms.
