How to Get Rid of a Cold in a Puppy
- 1). Keep your puppy warm and dry. You may want to add a blanket to her bed and give her the option of an electric heater. If the dog avoids the heater, though, there is too much heat.
- 2). Keep your dog inside as much as possible, particularly if it is cold or raining. Do not take walks until she is feeling better.
- 3). Mix shreds of boiled chicken or brown rice with your dog's food. Dogs often do not eat when they feel sick. Chicken and rice will not only tempt her appetite, it will also give her extra vitamins and minerals to support her immune system.
- 4). Check with your vet to see if a children's cough syrup will help with a cough. Most children's cough medicines are safe for puppies. They are not a cure, but they can ease irritation in the throat and help the dog get some rest.
