When in doubt, cry racism. That is the Democratic way, and Charlie Crist learns quickly. Or, at least eventually. On May 6, 2014 Charlie Crist gave his "reasons" for leaving the GOP and becoming an Independent and then a Democrat. Here are some of the more asinine answers and a reality check in response.

Crist: “I couldn’t... stay with a party that was so unfriendly toward the African-American president."

Translation: Republicans are racist! Wow, that's a new one from the left. Opposing Obamacare is, I guess, "unfriendly." But if he is so concerned about being friendly to African-American Democrats, exactly how "friendly" was it to drop from the 2010 Republican primary in the final hour and run as an independent while trying to co-opt your African-American Democratic opponent's positions and supporters? I'd guess 2010 Democratic nominee Kendrick Meek didn't find that too friendly. (Friendly might have been, say, supporting Kendrick Meek when you "suddenly" realized how "racist" your supporters were.)

Crist: “I was a Republican, and I saw the activists and what they were doing; it was intolerable to me."

These are, I'd assume, the same "activists" who were supporting his minority Republican challenger, Marco Rubio, in the GOP primary over Crist. And probably the same activists who supported Allen West in South Florida. It was so intolerable, in fact, this is the first we've ever heard of it.

But in any event, if any year was the one to start finding the GOP racist, 2010 was not it. Aside from those racist Republican supporting Rubio for US Senate, and West for Congress, and Rick Scott running-mate and Trinidadian-born Jennifer Carroll in Florida, the GOP went on a racial diversity spending spree nationwide. In South Carolina, Tim Scott (black) was elected to Congress after defeating the sin of Strom Thurmond, the one time segregationist. Meanwhile Nikki Haley (Indian) was elected Governor in the same deep south red state. The GOP backed now-governors Susana Martinez (NM) and Brian Sandoval (NV) who are both Hispanic while Jamie Herrera became the first Latina elected to congress in the state of Washington. By 2014, conservatives are backing Mia Love in Utah and TW Shannon for the US Senate in Oklahoma. And the GOP has at least break-even odds at having an openly gay candidate win election to the US House. Maybe if Crist left the party before the tea party revolution brought in a wave of diverse candidates he would have a point.

I left the Republican Party because the leadership went off the cliff

Oh, Charlie, is that why you left the Republican Party? In order to believe that, we would have to believe that if Crist were ahead double digits (not behind) and cruising to the Republican nomination and likely all the way to the US Senate that he still would have jumped ship from the GOP just two days before the primary filing deadline. Let's review the timeline:

• Jan-Dec 2009 - Crist leads Rubio by double digits in polls for most of the year and gets the support of all the big-league establishment Republicans - leadership included - but Rubio closes gap throughout the year anyway.
• January 2010 - Rubio takes first small leads against Crist
• February 2010 - Crist effectively calls Rubio a RINO and says of his own conservative credentials: "I’m an anti-tax, pro-life, pro-gun Republican, and I think it’s very clear that during my entire career I’ve never voted for a new tax. I’ve always thought it was important to put people first, to make sure they have the opportunity to make their own decisions about their lives without the government intruding. If that’s not conservative, I don’t know what is"
• April 28th - Charlie Crist's casmpaign announces he is now an independent, pro-life and other conservative messaging is scrubbed from his website, and he begins opposing everything he supported just 2 months earlier.
• April 30th - Deadline to select party and file for race
• November 2010 - Crist, now an Independent, gets Crushed by Rubio in the general election

Charlie Crist left the Republican Party in April, 2010 when he fell 20 points behind Marco Rubio in the Republican Primary. In fact, the "leadership" of the GOP - including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and the NRSC - backed and campaigned with Crist. Actually, I guess he has a point about the leadership going off the cliff.

Crist: Dude, I was just being a “good team player”

This is Charlie Crist's excuse for going along with all of those crazy conservative bills and such, including his opposition to in-state tuition for illegal aliens. He's a huge proponent of it now, of course, but this was not... I repeat... not a flip-flop. He was just being a "good team player." (And in an interesting display of one-upmanship, Florida Republicans went ahead and passed such a bill that is expected to be signed by Crist's potential opponent, Rick Scott.)

“They’re perceived now as being anti-women, anti-immigrant, anti-minority, anti-gay, anti-education, anti-environment,”

That's a popular perception of liberals, the media, and Hollywood, sure. But that perception is a necessity of the left in their quest to break America into a million little racial, sexual, and intolerant pieces and pick up enough pieces to win elections, to paraphrase Mitt Romney.

Crist on his strong opposition to Obamacare: "All of us in the beginning of something big like that happening, until you can get really comfortable with it, it’s hard to embrace.”

In other words, Crist is really, really comfortable with Obamacare now. Now that it is a disaster and a mess of course. And what made Crist comfortable with Obamacare? It must have been the fantastic roll-out, because that's right about when he became the law's #1 fan.

Crist is “liberated as a Democrat"

That's starting to seem obvious. He's already gotten down the "Republicans are racist/sexist/homophobic" stuff and the "everything I said before was a lie, but that's okay you guys" routine is going... well it's going.

Crist: “I couldn’t be consistent with myself and my core beliefs"

Because of Charlie Crist isn't known for being consistent and having "core beliefs" what is he known for?

Crist: Jeb Bush "would be a good president. I think Hillary would be a great president.”

If movement conservatives didn't already have enough problems with Jeb Bush's presidential ambitions, this certainly doesn't help. Right now Jeb Bush is thinking: "Of all the Republicans to praise, you had to pick me?"

Crist: "I'm a Democrat for life, now"

This isn't so much a crazy statement (not that we really believe him anyway) as it is a sigh of relief. But yeah, he is totally a Democrat for life... assuming he wins his primary this year.
