Snake Repellent - What is it, and Does it Work?

As soon as spring starts, the first thing I always think of is how I am going to get rid of my snake population this year.
A different type of snake repellent seems to come on the market every day, making finding the right type of product hard to do.
However, for a person like me, getting rid of my snakes is of the utmost importance.
A snake repellent can come in many different forms, with powder and a spray form probably the most common.
These products are suppose to be used in your yard every so often, usually around four weeks, and if used correctly, should keep snakes away from your home and out of your yard.
The basic principles of snake repellents seem obvious enough.
If you create smells and substances that snakes dislike, they should leave that area.
Humans do not stick around in areas where smells and tastes are horrible, so why should snakes? Snakes also have an organ that is specifically in charge of smell and taste.
This also gives credibility to the whole idea that by irritating this organ, you should be able to get rid of snakes, just like you can with certain bugs or other animals.
Because of this thought process, there are many types of snake repellent products out there.
The big question is do they work or not, and right now, I do not have enough experience with them.
I have read a lot of articles that say things like mothballs, cinnamon, sulfur, and any other type of really harsh smell like cayenne pepper tends not to work.
Some products say they are made from natural smells that keep snakes away in the wild naturally.
Again, without trying all of those different types, it will be too hard for me to endorse those products as something that works.
I can guarantee however, that I will continue to look for solutions that keep snakes out of my yard, that is for sure.
