    Framework

    • The Local Councils website explains the Local Government Act of 2002 provides a framework under which New Zealand's 85 elected local authorities operate. The Act is written in 12 parts and contains a further 20 schedules.

    Dimensions

    • Community Outcomes reports the Local Government Act of 2002 describes four dimensions upon which decisions should be taken at a local level in New Zealand. The four dimensions are social, economic, cultural and environmental outcomes for the current and future generations of New Zealand.

    Participation

    • Community Outcomes reports the Local Government Act of 2002 encourages the participation of local communities in the decision making process at a local level. The views and concerns of the community should be used by organizations to guide community decisions.
