How to Troubleshoot a Polaris Indy 500
- 1). Remove the filler cap off of the gas tank and check the amount of fuel you have in the tank. Before you start looking for more complicated solutions, always check your fuel level and observe the position for the engine kill switch. Make sure the switch is set to "Run" and that it has not been accidentally placed into the "Off" position.
- 2). Insert the key, turn it to the on position, connect the safety lanyard and press the "Start" button. If the engine does not start, remove the key, disconnect the spark plug cables and remove the spark plugs with a spark plug wrench. Use a wire brush to clean any carbon residue from the bottom of the spark plug, or install new spark plugs into the Polaris Indy 500. Reconnect the spark plug wires and try to start the snowmobile again.
- 3). Take the Polaris Indy 500 out for test run and see how engine accelerates; if you notice a hesitation or delay, remove the engine cover when you are back from your ride and inspect the fuel line and fuel filter for any blockages. If you have not changed the fuel filter in some time, replace the filter with a new one. At the end of the season drain the engine and fuel system of gas before you put it away for the summer.
