How to Prevent Hot Spots

    • 1). Groom your dog frequently to remove dead hair from the coat. Be sure to comb out any tangles and clip out mats that can't be combed out.

    • 2). Dry dogs with long hair thoroughly after swimming or bathing.

    • 3). Clip the dog's hair short in the summer. It will help the skin dry out faster after swimming, and the dog will be cooler.

    • 4). Treat the dog for fleas if you suspect the dog is allergic to flea bites. Excessive itching at flea bite sites can cause hot spots to form.
