    Onset and Duration of Symptoms

    • Concussion symptoms may not appear immediately following head trauma. Once symptoms do appear, they may last for days or weeks.

    Early Neurological Symptoms

    • A person with a concussion may suffer from memory loss, confusion and dizziness. In addition, his speech may be slurred.

    Early Physical Symptoms

    • A concussion may cause a headache and ringing inside the ears. Also, some individuals with a concussion may experience nausea and vomiting, or may feel fatigued.

    Delayed Symptoms

    • Some individuals may experience delayed concussion symptoms hours or days after suffering a head injury. Delayed symptoms may include light sensitivity, noise sensitivity, sleep problems, difficulty concentrating, memory deficits, depression and irritability.

    Treatment

    • Individuals who suspect they may have a concussion should consult a physician. The physician may recommend taking Tylenol or other medications for headaches. Individuals with a concussion should rest to allow the brain time to heal and should avoid engaging in contact sports for a week or more.
