Anybody who is a fan knows the mischievous, orange, fat, and furry feline, Garfield.
Garfield was created from the imagination of talented cartoonist, Jim Davis.
Jon Arbuckle has been known as the prideful owner of this frisky and funny cat who has centered the front of the comics for years.
Those of us born around the early 80's know of the cartoon Garfield that played on Saturday mornings called "Garfield and Friends.
That generation of fans watched it with a passion.
It aired from 1988-1995.
The Garfield fans have looked forward to seeing what this mischievous fat cat was up to each week.
So when did the Garfield craze all begin? Garfield first appeared on the comic page on June 19, 1978.
The cartoon only showed in about 41 newspapers, but Garfield's popularity grew quickly.
We read and watched Garfield as he developed relationships with is beloved, yet somewhat dorky owner, Jon Arbuckle, and his doggy sidekick-Odie.
People read about Garfield as he does ornery things around the house such as kicking Odie off of a table, or refusing to chase mice.
He has also known to be somewhat jealous of Jon's girlfriend, Liz, but never would admit to it.
Fans still love and adore Garfield today as he appears in over 2,570 newspapers and is read everyday by people across the world.
Almost 263,000,000 are known to read Garfield daily.
While everyday people enjoy the tales of Garfield, the businesses love this funny cat too.
Almost 550 businesses and manufacturers use Garfield's image as well as the other characters too for advertising their products.
Not only is Garfield loved in the U.
S.
A, but he is an icon in other countries too.
One hundred and eleven other countries also adore Garfield as well.
Since 1983, Garfield has remained a personal favorite as he has continuously rated in the top 10% as an individual's personal favorite.
Recently two movies have also been created in favor of the orange fat cat.
In 2004, Fox released the film, "Garfield: The Movie," and later followed with the sequel, "Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties", which was released in 2006.
In 2007, a new outlook on a Garfield movie was created.
This time, creators took the actual comic strip character, Garfield, from the strip, and put him out in the so called "real world," which developed into the newly released on DVD movie, "Garfield, Gets Real.

For well over 20 years, Garfield has truly become an idolized icon and a hit through at least 2 generations.
For those who were born in the eighties, we have all become to know and grow up with Garfield, and now our children love Garfield just as much.
He now even has a website that features his movies, games, and downloads for mobile phones,.
And for those who love gifts, there is an online web store where you can purchase clothing, snow globes, figurines, frames, and more.
There is almost any kind of gift that would be perfect for the Garfield fan.
Everybody has fell in love with Garfield through the years, and hopefully his story continues to develop across the comic strip as Jim Davis continues to create story-lines about the fat, funny, and orange cat that we all love and know, Garfield.
