How to Arrange a Raffle Basket

    • 1). Group your raffle prizes according to theme; a basket with a clear purpose is more appealing than a basket that is a jumble of unrelated items. Lotions and soaps, nail polish and gift certificates to a local salon make a spa-themed basket, while a pound of coffee and mugs creates a caffeinated raffle prize. Supplement smaller prizes with inexpensive offerings that bulk up the basket. If you've been given several DVDs, purchase microwave popcorn, soda and a bag of candy for a movie-night raffle prize. A small investment will yield big returns when people purchase tickets.

    • 2). Fill the bottom of the basket with crumpled newspaper or blocks of Styrofoam, then cover the filler with decorative elements like colored tissue paper, shredded iridescent mylar or inexpensive fabric. This will make it look fuller when you place the other items in the basket; a fuller-looking basket will entice more tickets, since people believe they are getting a better value for their purchase. Bright colors, shiny accents and intriguing textures also add a level of visual interest that will draw the eye to your basket.

    • 3). Set the most important item in the center of your basket; since it is the most valuable, it will be what attracts the most tickets, so don't hide it in a corner. Flank the center item with two items of lesser value on either side; for a wine-themed basket, place the wine in the center and glasses on either side. Fill in the front and sides of the basket with smaller items like candy, small foods and novelty items. If you have large items that are not necessarily valuable (baking sheets for a cookie basket; large coloring books in a children's toy basket), place them behind the central item to serve as a backdrop for the rest of the basket.
