In scientific terms, one can say that sleeplessness refers to the difficulty faced in falling asleep, upholding sleep or stimulating sleep. Around the globe, it is great topic of debate regarding sleeplessness as a symptom or sleeplessness as a disorder. Nonetheless, it might be a symptom or a disorder, but there is a number of sleeplessness that has been recognized and is detailed below-
  • Sleep onset sleeplessness: This type of insomnia is known as delayed phase condition because the patient is this case delays the major sleep occurrence. However, this is the reason that restlessness is confronted and usually the patient gets up late.
  • Psycho-physiological restlessness: All must have heard about psycho-physiological restlessness which is a result of anxiety or psychosomatic problems that further creates some or the other body problems and prevents sleep.
  • Idiopathic sleeplessness: In this the nervous system gets affected in which the nervous system gets incompetent of controlling the sleep and walking mechanism of the body. However, this results in lifelong failure of getting a proper sleep.
  • Altitude sleeplessness: It is termed to be the acute version of sleeplessness. Although, it is short lived still it is intense and is accompanied with some severe symptoms as like of headache, fatigue, and loss of appetite.
  • Food allergy sleeplessness: Sleeplessness that keeps you away from eating or results in allergic responses to certain foods is termed to be food allergic sleeplessness.
  • Toxin incorporated sleeplessness: It is a sleep disorder that is caused due to poisoning with toxins such as heavy metals or certain organic compounds.
  • Environmental restlessness: In this kind, a person faces problem in sleeping due to some of the surrounded factors like smell, smoke, noise, buzz etc.
  • Stimulant dependent sleeplessness: It is a disorder in which a person gets addicted to some of the drugs that stimulate the nervous system and holds him back from having a proper sleep.

Apart from these there are some more things that are related to sleeping disorder like many people believe that alcohol and sleeplessness has no link which is absolutely wrong. Initially when a person has started consuming alcohol, it is obvious that he'll fall asleep in the initial days. And, if this continues then a person is held back from having a sound sleep. People who are already fighting with the ailments like blood pressure, indigestion, gastric problem, kidney issues or heart problems and then consume alcohol, soon they will be deprived of sleeping and would get affected with insomnia.

Just not this, people who about worry about things and get tensed or anxious concerning little-little things then it is obvious that they'll fail to sleep properly. If a person does not sleep for couple of days then at initial time it is considered okay but if it becomes habit then it is sure that anxiety and sleeplessness has become a companion which is not good at all. If this happens, a few symptoms could be looked for such as generalized anxiety, panic and phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. However, in such situation one must consult a doctor and see for a remedy as soon as possible.
