The Today Show's latest co-host, Savannah Guthrie, was born Dec. 27, 1971, in Melbourne, Australia. Her family moved to Tucson, Ariz., when she was only two-years-old, still toddling about the Outback.

Guthrie attended Amphitheater High School and became an undergrad at the University of Arizona after graduation. Guthrie studied journalism at Arizona, graduating cum laude in 1993. She took a job as a reporter for KMIZ in Columbia, Mo., before returning to her hometown and taking a job at KVOA.

Success in Tucson led to opportunities in our nation's capitol, a journalist for WRC-TV. While there, Guthrie covered the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and anthrax scares throughout Washington. Her work as a correspondent was well-known in broadcast circles, but instead of taking more high profile opportunities, Guthrie decided to go back to school.

Guthrie attended Georgetown University Law Center, where she received her juris doctor in 2002. She passed the bar in Washington and Arizona, scoring the highest among all others when she took the Arizona Bar Exam. Guthrie returned to Georgetown University to serve as a Law Fellow and teach a first-year Legal Research and Writing Workshop.

She then took a position with law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. Guthrie served as litigation associate.

Back on The Air
Guthrie didn't stay with the law firm long. She joined NBC News in 2008 as a reporter, following Sarah Palin on the vice presidential trail. That stint led to her promotion to White House correspondent in 2008.

Success as White House correspondent landed her on The Today Show. She began as a substitute for both Meredith Vieira and Ann Curry. As the morning program expanded from two hours to three - and eventually four - Guthrie was asked to join the program as co-host of the show's third hour, alongside Natalie Morales and Al Roker.

Then, after NBC negotiated with Today co-host Curry, asking for her departure from the program, the network promoted Guthrie to the co-host spot.

• Guthrie met her future husband, BBC news reporter Mark Orchard, while the two were covering the trial of pop singer Michael Jackson. The two were wed in Dec. 2005. The marriage lasted four years, wth the duo splitting in 2009.
